Spidering old and new - what do I do?

I recently changed servers.

I was advised to leave both servers running until there is no activity on the old server.

Google is now spidering the new server but is still visiting the old server as well.

Is there a possibilty of duplicate content penalties being imposed and when should I take the old server down?

BTW there is only one domain name involved

Can't you get the old server to redirect to the new? That way google and other spiders will follow the redirect and not take any content from the old.

It is simply that, as there are so many machines running google, some of them have received the information regarding your new server and the others haven't!

As google indexes your sites using the domain name, rather than the IP address, they must treat the pages from the two servers as being the same pages.

Therefore, there can be no penalty for "cloning" pages :)
