From PR5 to unranked

Site PR was 5 until this month; now we're unranked

Our site home, www.oursite.com, held a PageRank of 5 until this week. This loads the address www.oursite.com/default.asp, which, for that exact URL, ranked 4. On default.asp two files are included (header and footer), which, until last week, both contained links to www.oursite.com/default.asp. Last week we changed the links to point to www.oursite.com. Now, this week our home PR shows up as "unranked," yet www.oursite.com/default.asp still maintains its PR of 4. Any idea what happened to our page rank, or what we can do about it? We still have as many if not more incoming links.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Bob_MC welcome to the board!
what about your rankings, did they drop? I have to say, I don't quite get what the problem is with the way you set this up and why you made the changes?

Hi Heini,
Thanks for the reply and the welcome. Our search results rankings don't appear to be too adversely affected, if at all, but they are not as good as we'd like them to be. And the results we do get are never for our home page (despite what we think is good, appropriate, keyword-laden copy). In fact, it appears our home page has dropped out of Google's index in the last iteration (hence the unranked status). Whether removing the "default.asp" from the header/footer link has anything to do with this is just a guess due to the associated timing of the two events. We made the change since at the time "oursite.com" showed a PR of 5 while "oursite.com/default.asp" showed PR = 4. To be honest, none of us here can think why this would make a difference, since there is really only one page involved. There may be something else entirely going on.
