The mirror copy at Google Directory is PR3.
However in the past we have shown this Dmoz listing as a backlink, so I am a bit baffled how/why a Dmoz category can get a PR0 penalty.
Shak
i checked the category and I do see the same: white bar.
it is true that some dmoz-categories received a penalty for linking to bad areas (linkfarms). your category is inconspicuous though.
couldn't it be possible that PR0 does not mean a penalty in that case but just an amount of PR not enough for showing PR1?
i have seen many dmoz-cats with reduced PRs these days maybe yours was also reduced.
i have two domains i am just running for fun and didn't work on them for months. they have both lost all their inbound-links but were onced indexed. both domains are showing pr0. it is absolutely exluded that this is a penalty
-> no optimisation at all no outbound links. i was a little shocked at first but then came to the conclusion that this cannot be a penalty.
maybe ther is still update going on .for example here is something strange: i signed up for soem site that is affiliate. url goes liek this : www.affiliateurl.com/my_id
i link to this site from my pages, from one domain that was hit with pr penalty and is now pr 2. this affilaite site has NO backlinks whatsoever back to me.www.affiliateurl.com has pr 4 i think.before this update this www.affiliateurl.com/my_id had pr 5 . now pr 0! have no idea how this could happen. www.affiliateurl.com/my_id in now way points to none of my sites and root url has no penalty.it appear like if this page was penalized JUST becasue i linked to it? that doensm make sense.

that category probably has 1 inbound link from the category above, so therefore maybe not enough PR being passed through, and the Pr0 may not necessarily be an exclusion/bad neighbourhood thing.
Shak
i have a site that is pr0 which has not been optimized in any way - it was just indexed and lost almost all of its inbound-links - so i fed it with a link from one of my sites.
i don t think that the update of the pr-bar is already done but i tried to find the domain under a (non competitive) keyword and google shows me on rank 3.
the total amount of results is over 700!
so could we assume that if google shows results from the domain it means that the pr0 is definitely not a penalty?
anyway this is the latest:
1, Dmoz category is still (Toolbar = White, and has NO backlinks)
2, Google category is = PR3 (has NO backlinks)
Our site is position 1 at Dmoz (alphabetical order)
Site is Position 1 in Google DIRECTORY (both in terms of PR and alphabetical)
Actual PR of our site is PR5, and NO backlinks show to DMOZ or Google Directory, although Google directory description and category show under SERPS.
Shak
A PR penalised page (in results but white Toolbar) behaves in Google like a page that no one links to. Both get the white Toolbar, and are in the results with poor listings.
At Dmoz.org, there are four reasons I can think of for PR0 (white Toolbar).
* The page is too deep in the directory. The links to it are PR0 or very low PR1.
* The directory structure changed. A moved or renamed category can result in some missing pages and as a result PR0s are possible (because the high PR links don't get through).
* The directory category has been penalised. All backlinks are ignored. (Classic "PR0 penalty")
* The parent category has the "inherits PageRank but doesn't pass it" penalty. Backlinks to that category are counted and it has decent PageRank, but it can't pass any PR to its children.
Shak, if you check the parent category and it has PR, check the category description. If it's PR0 then a penalty seems very likely. This has been seen in cat's that list a number of banned or PR0 sites.
to find out the difference we could go for alltheweb and type in the link.all:http://www.thedomain.com if it shows lots of inbound links or at least a couple of pr4 and + then it s a penalty if not it is just not enough pr to be shown on the pr-meter.
i did this with one of my sites that showed white:i gave it a good inbound and it came back again with pr4 this update.
