A change in algo with "the" stop word?

Bizarre! Using "the" i got 12.8 millions results on www and 3.02 billions results on www2 and www3!?!

If you type any stop word, just the stop word (is, an, and, the) you will get results.

if you include "the" in a phrase (as in "the white house") Google will give the notice about disallowing the stop word.

My point was why 700% increase with the word "the" in the new update to come and also the first time I see 3 billions results in SERP.

The numbers of results from Google has always been suspect, and the home page figure doesn't get updated often. Allergic's discovery is interesting, maybe Google is over 3 billion now?

My guess is that Google's index is getting bigger as they index more 'dynamic' looking content.

Do the count the uncrawled pages in these 2.4 billions because they can be in the SERPS nevertheless?

In spite of the higher numbers, Google has definitely also removed sites.

BTW: Google numbers may differ from place to place. I've even seen different numbers for the same search on different PC's in the same building! But now I've seen something even more strange.

Search for www:

In Opera AND from Google's toolbar in IE I get 971,000,000 results.

From the Google website in IE I catch 32,700,000

There's been a change however. It used to be that you got the exact same search results, no matter which stopword you used - it was like a search with no filter/term. Now however, a single word stop word is searched for, so that searching for "the" is different to searching for "and". (of course, I didn't use quotes in the search, but the results are similar to using quotes on stop-words to get them included.
