Just wondering if there's a slim chance of hope for me, in getting in this coming update. Submitted to ODP on 10/22, and still waiting.... Brand new site, only listed in JoeAnt and Zeal so far, I think. I've been spidered by a few guys, but not googlebot yet, unless he's being sneaky and I missed him. The whole "dance" and update rules confuse me, as the last time I dealt with the whole SE thing, everyone was free and fast. I miss those easy days :)

This waiting crap is for the birds....lol

Can anyone give me a ray of hope? Has anyone been so lucky to NOT have to wait so long?

Karen :)

Nope. ;)

You'll most likely get crawled early next month and be in the index in the Nov. Update...

I agree with Nick that you seem unlikely to be part of the next full update if you haven't been fetched yet, but you may well appear as a 'fresh listing' at any time.

This becomes very likely if you are linked from a high PageRank page (or one that's in Yahoo! or the Open Directory).

I have yet to dig too deep in the PageRank System thing, as it seems very complicated, but I do know that I'm on Zeal, which hopefully is highly ranked somewhere...lol

BTW, should I download the Google Toolbar? It seems to be a standard for people here.

Thanks guys for helping!

Go ahead, certainly won't do you any harm. You'll be able to check out competitors PR to help give you an idea of what it will take to rank well....

My experience with both Zeal and JoeAnt is that listings of my sites in their directories do not show up as backlinks in Google. Listings in DMOZ and Yahoo! do. This implies that Zeal and JoeAnt are regarded as less important to Google, so your Zeal listing may not be sufficient to prompt a vist from Googlebot. Your DMOZ listing, when you get it, will. One thing you could do, if you're lucky enough to have other sites that are visited regularly by Google (get 'fresh' updates regularly) is to link to your new site from these others. Googlebot will follow those links. The bad news, I'm afraid, is that I also launched a new site about 10.22, and it's been heavily crawled by Googlebot (hope that doesn't sound smug). So I think the other replies are correct - at best you can hope for is some 'fresh' listings over the next few weeks, and then a full listing in the Nov update.

I'm happy for you that you got spidered so quickly, and no, it doesn't sound smug :)

Did some searching and also found my site on ExactSeek, which I know isn't a big deal, but they have a PR of 6/10, so maybe there is hope for me yet? :)

Thanks!

For Karen, and anyone else in similar situation:
Just came across this excellent post from GoogleGuy regarding 'fresh' and 'full' spidering/indexing. msg5 in this thread:
