What are the implications?

Hi everyone,

I'm considering changing a sites focus away from one keyword to another - though the 'keyword set' will change very little.

Example:

Now promoting Widgets
with key-phrases like: red widgets, blue widgets.

Will change to Nadgers
with key-phrases like: blue nadgers, cold nadgers etc

What are the implications of such a change with google?

Many thanks

Nick

Google will simply look at your site with new eyes and go about calculating relevancy to the new keywords in the usual way. You will need to assure that the site will be understood by Ms. Googlebot as being about nadgers in whatever varieties AND ALSO you will need to assure that inbound links to the site contain anchor text about nadgers, not widgets. It would also be important to get any listings in Dmoz and Yahoo moved to the appropriate category, with description and title changes as necessary. Give Google at least a month to get caught up on all the changes.

Thanks very much beachboy.

I'd pretty much figured that myself but was curious about theming?
