When's the next "big" google cache update?

Seems like it's been a while. When i look at the cache of my site now. (I'm talking about the major full cache change thing, not the "fresh" cache that you see for 5 minutes, then it goes back to the old cache.)

I know its kind of sporadic, but anyone have any idea's, it should be soon right? Doesn't it seem like its been a while?

Google updates around once a month. The last update began on Sept.26.

So, if they stay true to their normal schedule, you have about 10 more days to wait.

Whew! Seems to be takin' forever! Guess it's cause when I look at the current google cache of my site, it looks like how my site was like 3 months ago, hehe.

Thanks WebGuerilla! :)

Here is the history of Google updates [webmasterworld.com] thread you might want to check out if you've not seen it.

Waxing and waning moons have been made for a possible connection with update times ;) ;)

Man, I can't wait till the next big Google cache update! I know I said it up there before, but just in like the last month, Ive:

  • Acquired alot more links to my site. Lots of work, emailing webmasters, asking to exchange links and stuff, some of which are pretty high PageRanked sites. (got a few PR7's to link, and I'm currently a PR5).

  • Added more content to my site.

  • Done some other search engine and browser optimizing.

This forum has been a HUGE help, I'm glad I found it. Thanks everyone.

Can't wait to see what happens to my google rank/position after this next big update!

Anyone else make any big recent changes to there site, or acquired alot more links in fairly short period of time, and really looking forward to this next big google cache update?

I have also done some major changes to my site and waiting for the next Google update. Gained some links, eased the navigation for the spider, re-positioned the keywords etc.

But someone in this forum told me as the changes were done in the begining of October it wont be captured by the spider in t he October update.

    Any suggestion?

I agree with PFOnline that this forum is a great help.

    PFOnline,

Just to prepare you, you should realize that what will go into this update and the calculations for your ranking with this update are all based on the deep crawl during the first few days of October.

That is probably why it seems like it is so long since an update, the most recent "big" update is from the crawl in early September. That is why you need to plan your changes at least 2 months in advance, and try to make any changes you want in google to your site by the end of the month.

So if you add some pages to your site today(lets say 30 pages) will they show up when google does its dance this month or two months down the road?

i agree with sasqutch and prepare you for disappointment PFOnline!

He makes the most important point to consider -

And to add that the real value of your incoming links may not really start working for you for a few months, and that in the meantime the algo will have changed a few times to something maybe significantly different. You should see a difference from your on page optimiztion for pages that were changed before early Oct as Sasquatch has explained - as long as the algo had not changed the weightings considerably. Plus if you are in a competitive area, remember others will also be working on it with their own sites, maybe even with a whole team of SEO's and content people doing it!

So the best wishes for the next update! but please dont get disheartened if the results are not as good as you expect.. that makes us all disheartened!

Other than the last update upsetting people that really has to be my only gripe with google it's such a shame they can't speed the whole process up, maybe updating twice a month rather than making us poor designers wishing the month away, I'm already looking forward to Decembers update :(

such a shame Ink has as good as vanished, make changes to your pages 2 days later wham you see results :) those were the days

This is only true for PR calculations and possible position movements for your allready indexed pages - but not for new pages and fresh content. What i really like these days is that when you add new content to your site you can (possibly) see it appearing at google after a very short while!

I added about 45 pages on wednesday. 10 hours later googlebot crawled them. 24 hours later they were in the index and on TOP positions for the targeted keywords / themes.

I know, this can change after the next update and after the next PR recalculations and yes, it only works if you have enough PR to get crawled frequently. But i like these bonus days - a lot of people will find my site for new (deep) searches and prob stay with me cause i rather do UEO (User's Experience Optimization) than SEO.

Same ole story: forget PR, forget the update shedule and continuously work on fresh content! "A site a day keeps headaches away ..."

    :)

Last month every man and his dog were "looking forward" or "just unable to wait" or "really excited" about the update.

Not so many SEOs salivating at the thought of the next update this time. Not surprisingly.

I wasn't last month and I'm not this month. When you're top, the only way is down :(

yidaki you are mainly correct i think. In our experience new pages last about 1 to 2 days then drop off until the next update. They tend to get a boost in the next update to somewhere where they appeared the first time, then drop down.
