I just searched for one of the top 10 keywords on the net in a two word phrase....
'fuzzy widgets'

The reason I did it is to study an optimized site done by 'professionals'.

The site that came up 2nd in the search was theres, but upon going to it, the PR bar says it is not indexed by google. I did a refresh to be sure, and got the same result.....it also has no backlinks...
how is this possible?

Cloaking is my only guess, but I really have no clue.

For a site to be included in the Google results, they will have indexed the site / and calculated the pagerank. It could be that there is a redirect or something else funky going on...

if the page that a visitor arrives at does not match the url of the page that google lists, the pagerank on that page that google lists can show as 'not being ranked by google'.

Also, it could be the toolbar timing out requesting the PageRank data from google. Behind a corporate firewall it can happen.
