Back To Basics - Its all about quality links from other sites

When I joined webmasterworld earlier in the year, the first thing that I realised was "its all about links to your site". This has helped me get my site up to PR6 and rated #3 for my main keyword. My site is a directory aimed at the UK and since being a member here I have learned so much. Not least that we all either Love or Hate Google, depending on how well we feel we are being treated. I did lose over 180 pages from my directory 3 updates ago for no apparent reason and no one could tell me why, however the pages did all return on the following update.
Following the last update, all backward links from our own site seem to have been disregarded by Google even though they are PR 4 pages, they are still in Google, just not given as backward links from our homepage. This all leads me back to the start and what I first learned, its all about quality links from other sites.

And building incoming links is a process that should never stop. There are always new places to look, new content to share, etc... I encourage all clients to view link popularity as an ongoing process. Granted, the longer a site exists, and the more info and incoming links it has, the more likely folks are to link to it of their own accord, but that's no reason to get lax in your efforts. :)

i dont know. i have one site that has pr 6 and top positions on major keywords i target althought it is only 4 page site :) and those are million results keywords.i get alot of hits everyday.

second site had around 10 pages but gets only 1 hit or so per day from google.has pr 3!

both have approx the same number of links from other sites, both are in major importnat directories including dmoz.

content but not necessary quantity is the key i think.+ importnat links from other sites too, ESPECIALLY from dmoz. this month when we all see importance of dmoz go up - my site traffic at least doubled from google.
