Keep in mind, these are only my own thoughts.

The idea for charging for people to read news I personally believe would negative.

In this day and age, people are used to information being available for free. Although the service may be very good, it does not stop the fact that people will continue to look else where as there is always information free somewhere else if you look for it.

You will have some circumstances where people WILL pay however is this worth it?

This also brings to the table that the negative publicity this may attract. We have already seen a couple of instances where people have been confused with "News" & "Search". Although you will only be charging for News, this may be interpreted incorrectly by others where they THINK you will be charging for searches.

Being the Internet, news of "Google is charging for SEARCHES" (even though we know this will only be News), will quickly develop and spread like wildfire. This may have a negative impact, and some negative publicity.

Like I say, these comments are only one persons oppinion.

Best regards,

Michael.

i agree - you start charging for any service and a certain percentage of your users will get the wrong end of the stick and assume you are charging for all services.

Plus theres the group of people who totally object to paying for news, cos at the end of the day it should be free and there are plenty of quality free news sources out there anyway.

Id say there is a large level of brand loyalty when it comes to news (at least amongst the general public anyway).
