I'm going to be installing a news section on a site, industry specific. I noticed that some sites use a code like:
<meta name="REVISIT-AFTER" content="7 days">
Does the G-bot do this just because you ask it to? Is there some threshhold to be achieved before you qualify for G-News? Are the sites in Google news news-only?

Googlebot doesn't care about that directive. It has its own formula for "Freshness."

Does the freshness formula have to do with total content change every day?

My impression is that the fresh crawling is based on ODP/Yahoo inclusion and PageRank, rather than the frequency of content change.
