After the update there, my site rose a fair bit and stayed there for the past few days.

I was top for several keywords and the changes that i had made last month were reflected in the results (i had altered some filenames so for the latter part of last month some of the links from SERPs wouldnt work, but after the update the new file names were shown and everything was fine).

Now today im back down by 2 or 3 pages and my old filenames are showing. Im still higher up than i was last month (i think - im new to this - i wasnt tracking the results to carefully).

Im not overly concerned about my rankings in general as im not running the site as a business, but i would like to try to get an idea of what is going on! :)

I can accept this if perhaps I had been spamming or something and recieved penalties, but i dont think ive done anything against googles TOS.

Again I say, im not bothered about the rankings, but i dont see the point in having the update, if google are just going to revert back to my obsolete links? Isnt this reducing the relevancy of Googles results (ie less working links in the SERPs)?

It seems hypocritical of Google to continuily go on about the need for high ranking websites to be relevant to their search terms if they go and do something like this after an "update"!

Just my two cents! :)

Stay cool, Jack. Google often seems to juggle old information and new. It'll straighten out again soon.

i read here that there is period of time after the update (or during the update) that things go up and down.

How long does this last for? Is it usuall to see new data for a few days and then old data (the filenames that are listed are over a month old!)?

cheers for the feedback! :)

this takes the piss!

im now number 2 for a minor keyword - number 1 is an untitled document.

Its like being beaten in a race away from traffic lights by a kid on a push bike. :(
