We sell widgets to the US and Europe using two different web sites/domain names hosted on the same server. 1 website is devoted to US and the other to Europe. My concern is goolge (and other SEs) will find this spammy since some of the product listings are similar. Am I in danger?

If there are obvious distinctions between the two sites (language, currency, interface, etc.), it shouldn't be a problem.

Whether they're on the same server or not, I would expect the answer to depend on how similar they are.

I agree with xbase, that if the language is different, you ought to be OK. If the content is the same, just with different branding, then you risk getting the same content listed twice.

In my opinion, Google is pretty good at handling duplicate or near duplicate content, but personally I'd try to avoid dupes.

Off-topic, but have you considered putting your euro site in europe, and your american site in the US?

If your site has much complexity at all, the latency can really add up. But if there are only one or two pieces to each page, then stick with the one server
