Some kind of spam?

How can be a page without a keyword and without backwards links #1?

Hi All,

I'm just making a research of a particular keyword in a particular top level domain (site:.xx) and I've found out that the first three web pages in the results have not the keyword in their contents at all. #1 and #3 are framesets without any real content (and even without meta tags), #2 contains some text, but not the keyword.

Google cache shows no content for #1 and #3 and for all of them it states, that the keyword is used only in backwards links. However #1 has no backwards links, #2 has only a couple of internal backwards links and the link from ODP and Google Directory and #3 has 2 backwards links from PR4 sites.

PageRank of #1 and #3 is 4, PageRank of #2 is 5. Only #2 is listed in the ODP.

How can they achieve such results? Is this a spam? The keyword is quite competitive -- there are 120,000 items in the search results. There are hundreds of sites that are much more relevant for the keyword, have bigger PR and definitely more backwards links than those three.

Remember that Google won't show you the backlinks from pages of less than PR4. It's very possible they have one or more links from a PR3 page with the term in it.

Still doesn't make much sense, until you take into account that there is little or no content on the pages to compete with the term in the backlink.

Consider:

Page A - real content page
400 words on page vs 1 word in backlink

Page B - page such as you quote
0 words on page vs 1 word in backlink

To use a very simple sample equation,

Page A density/relevance of word = 1/401*100 = .24%

Page B density/relevance of word = 1/1*100 = 100%

10 words on the page would give a density of about 9%.

Your no-content pages win hands-down.

Had another discussion about this earlier this week. Will see if I can find the thread.

That's the one. Didn't get into it in great detail, but the scenarios martinibuster and I were talking about are pretty much the same as this situation.

Thank you deejay, your explanation makes perfect sense. However, it makes me wonder whether is there a way, how to find those missing backlinks of PR less than 4. Can some other SE find them?
