Keyword tag (again)

No influence on PR, but on search results?

Situation is like this: I have a home page. Say it's www.widgets.com/index.html. It includes a meta keywords tag, e.g. keyword1, keyword2, keyword3,... as well as some text about widgets. This text doesn't include all of the keywords though, let's say keyword2 and keyword 3 are not in the real page content.

Now when I search for 'widgets keyword2', Google shows my home page in the results. When I search for 'widgets keyword3' it doesn't.

Can anyone explain that one?

Does google use Meta descripton and keyword?
Last time i checked it did'nt matter at all, but maybe is does now?

Some of top ranks this month don't have the meta keyw & descr in the file and seem to good in rank.

Is it used in the anchor text for any incoming links?

Not that I knew and not in the pages found under link:www.widgets.com. But if my memory serves me as it should, not every link is showed there. So it could be the solution.

<added>Just tried the link.all search on alltheweb and it seems there are links including keyword2 in the link text. These go directly to the keyword2 specific pagae however and not to the home page.</added>
