A question concerning back links

How do you do a backwards link search, which filters out all the internal links into the site (ie. you are only left with the external links into the site)?

Apparently you can't. On [google.com ] it says:

You cannot combine a link: search with a regular keyword search

I agree with you that it's very annoying.

Here's three more questions concerning back links:

1. Why can I only see pages linking to me if they have a PR4 or more? There's more to life than Google page rank (e.g: my site just moved and I would like to inform *everybody*).
   
2. Why is this PR4 limitation not documented?
   
3. Why does Google only show half the back links?
   For one of my sites, Google claims 56 back links but only lists 28. For my other site the numbers are 116/57 for the Danish section and 78/38 for the English section.

I guess the answer to all those questions is quite simple: Google does not cater to web publishers, let alone web promoters.

For this purpose as well as for link research you could use ATW.
Of course that does not tell you anything about links relevant to your Google standing.

Use AllTheWeb's backlink search as it does not limit results by PR.

Also you can search on Google for "YourWebSite.com"
as this will return far more results than a link: command search.

Other ways are to search for my keywords (since I'm in a noncompetitive field) and to look in my web log for referrers.

Dante_Maure: There should be a plus-sign before "com" i.e. "mysite.+com". Thanks for the suggestion - I found a few that I didn't know about :)

Actually, if you put "YourWebsite.com" in quotes it will return results just fine without the need for the "+com".

You're right. It must have been the Google Dance. Or the everflux. Or something in the water.... :)

Anyway, the answer to Slovakia's original question is this:

"mysite.com" -site:mysite.com

or in AllTheWeb:

link.all:mysite.com -url.host:mysite.com
