How do you get google to list links within site as backlinks?

backlinks to a site, within that site

If you search, on google, for sites backlinking to say, this site, webmasterworld, the first bunch of urls returned are posts within the forums, implying that google recognizes that links within a site, to pages within that site, add to the backlinks.

My problem is that I cannot get google to recognize links within my site, to my site. not even one. I've tried relative urls, absolute urls, no luck. has anyone else experienced this and got it to work?

Thanks!

Hi rchilakapati,

What is the page rank of the pages within your site? I've read here that Google does not display pages with less than a page rank of 4 when checking backlinks, so this may be the reason.

If you are using www2 or www3 now you will get inconsistent results.

I get different results 1 minute after I did the same query.

Anyway I would really like it if I knew how to hide my internal links from this search why do you want the opposite?

Are you sure they are indexed at all?

isn't that what we all want here? getting all out pages indexed?
I think you discoverd the google seo-ing not so long ago huh?

Google 'follows' your links from pages that are indexed. and indexes them too.

hey ikbenhet1, not sure what your point was. I know my pages in lower levels are being indexed and these pages contain links to my home page, yet when I look for backlinks to my site, google does not list these lower level pages.

are your internal links linking to www.domain.com or www.domain.com/index.htm?

the way things seem at the moment, you need a link from a dmoz listed site, (prefferable dmoz itself, but that's not easy to get).
You could also go for pr>4 links.

When Important pages like to you exmpl: dmoz, or those listed in dmoz or pr>4, google gives your site more importancy (pr).

When your site has enough importancy (pr) you will see them all.

(your question was answerd already by coconut, site need to be >pr4, but i tried to make it easy for u)

korkus : I've tried linking via both www.mydomain.com as well as www.mydomain.com/index.html, no luck

ikbenhet1 : my site has a PR of 7 and the pages within my site linking to the home page have a PR of 6.
