actual domain versus index page

domain redirects to index page. Will Google mind?

I have a new site (hosted this time by Verisign) and I noticed that when you call up the site using the domain, it redirects to the index page:

for example: www.widgets.com redirects to www.widgets.com/index

My question is: how do I handle this when adding my url to directories such as Yahoo? I submitted my site to Yahoo using the actual domain and I am afraid that Google will not like the redirect. Do I need to set up back links to the actual domain, the index page, or does it matter (Google can figure it all out)?

Thanks for your help

It most likely does'nt redirect but just calls the top level page for the domain in your case index.htm, if there was a default.htm page on the TLD then most likely that page would be assumed to be the 1st page over the index one. So just submit you're actual domain and the rest will get worked out.

What if some of my incoming links point to the actual domain, and some point to the index url? Does Google lump these together? or does Google view the two as two separate pages (even though they the same page) with two different pr values?

I have some sites that link to the main domain.com and some linking to domain.com/index.

Any ideas?
