Does the location of a link on a page affect it's PR value?

Is the value of an inbound link affected by where it is on the page...

On a directory type page with a single column of 100 links all of equal font size, is there any PR benefit to being listed in the top 5 as opposed to the 97th?

I don't think there is any practical way of proving this because there are too many variables involved that would mess up a test of this theory. In other words, the test cannot be controlled.

Unless you have access to Google's secret sauce, I can't see how anybody can give a definitive answer to this question. It is a good question however.

I have a feeling that it probably doesn't make a difference. What logic, as far as RELEVANCE to a search query, would one apply to justifying a higher benefit to a link located higher up on a list? What's the rationale? I can't think of one, and am inclined to believe that there is no benefit.

Just my reasoned opinion. I could be wrong. Only the holder of the secret sauce can tell you for sure.

Gbody has been said to index the first 101kb of code it comes across on a page. Make sure your in there and you should get the link indexed. I believe height on a page does count (codewise, not wysiwyg). Google at least uses it to determine descriptions. If the search term appears in two or more instances all other things being equal the description should come from the uppermost one in the code. For more information check out this thread.

Ok, actually its more questions on the subject I'm trying to bump back up.
