Do listings in multiple Yahoo! directories count for additional PR?

In doing backlink checks for certain sites in the Google index I've noticed some that have as many as 5-6 different links showing up from the various international Yahoos.

It would seem that each additional link indexed is worth the appropriate PR addition as well.

Is there any way to proactively get yourself indexed in all of the Yahoo indexes and have those links count toward your PR? Once accepted to the main directory through BizEx is there danger of being accused of spamming for submitting to each of the international directories individually?

It doesn't seem like it is automatic since most sites I check links for only count the main directory listing and not the international ones.

Would it be appropriate for me to post this in the Yahoo forum as well?

Is it possible to ask too many questions in a single post? ;)

(wonders if the posting police are going to slap the "newbie" cuffs on him)

I'm sure a PR expert can confirm this, but my understanding of PR is that it's not quantity but quality (and I'm sure some other factors). In other words, the possibility exists for a site with only a few links to have the same PR as one with thousands.

Dante, you're asking about Page Rank specifically, so this is the right place.

>site with only a few links to have the same PR as one with thousands.

Page rank in itself is numerical, but in thinking about raw number of links, the actual exact page rank is not the same as what we see on the toolbar. Much in the same way, when we see a product for "under $7.00" it can be $6.99 or $6.01 - they're both in a range, but not equal.

If there's a PR5 site with only a dozen links that shows PR5, no links higher than PR5, and one that shows PR5 that's got thousands of links with a couple of them PR6, it's reasonable to assume that the second is higher, probably edging toward the borderline of a 6, while the first would be expected to be a lower 5.

If there's a question about whether, aside from page rank, there's an advantage to being listed in more than one category for traffic, or whether the keywords used in the Yahoo category listing add any value to Google ranking, that's a different story.

Thanks Marcia and AkanDian rain...

I'm quite familiar with PR and it's flow. I'm much more concerned with quality than quantity hence my interest in the additional Yahoo directory listings. Yahoo listings tend to have a solid PR value, and by definition will be *very* relevant (since the listings will all come from appropriate category placement, with optimized keyword anchoring and description.)

My real question is... since I am already prepared to pay $299 for a commercial listing, is there a way for me to get the most for my investment by gaining listings across the Yahoo network that will all be picked up by Google?

To achieve this, am I better off going for listings in the international directories prior to, as part of, or after my primary BizEx submission.

Basically... has anyone here gotten multiple listings in the various international directories, and if so, how did you accomplish it?

Being listed in Yahoo.com will get you listed in all the international data bases. Will you get PR from each listing? I don't know.
I know what you are seeing when checking back links to a site.

Will you get PR from each Yahoo Regional? -- Yes

Will you be considered "spam" or penalized? -- No, Yahoo is a trusted listing.

How do you get into each? -- Pay the asssociated fee.

However, be very careful as to what you select as a category.

e.g. - if you are in the U.S. you may be able to get a Regional listing in other Regional Directories, however, in general unless you have a domain with a regional extension, online proof that you service that region (international distribution), non-profit or informative information for that region -- you may be wasting your time.

Remember -- Yahoo does not refund the fee if you are not listed.

I personally would not pay just for the sake of PR gain.

Being listed in dot.com will get you listed in all regions that you are appropriate for.

Neither would I, just for the PR. I'd rather hunt down industry related quality directories. And sometimes there are sites that sell ad space that counts for PR.
