also to make matters more interesting some PR4 sites show links and some other PR4 sites dont this would tell me that PR is estimated and there really is more behind the whole number like 4.1, 4.2 or 4.5 mabey the threshold is not 4 for the link problem but 4.? thats why some page rank 4's show links and others dont.
can someone tell me if im thinking right or am i going a little crazy?
the link thing on google might feel unreliable but i would tend to think it is an exact science and that it is very important not to stop understanding how it works because it could quickly get ahead of you and leave you guessing for months (not saying that it is has not already left all of us way behind) mabey not! ;)
here is another thing to think about Does putting outgoing links on your site DILUTE your PR
if a pr4 site has 100 links on it, then for each of those sites the backlinks show (right?)
[edit:added] i read somewhere else in forum that it isn't about the quantity of links you have to your site but rather the quality of the sites (pr's) that links to you. but i could be wrong of course (not about that part that i read it elswhere on this forum)

yes it would appear for them because it was comming from a PR$ site BUT if the www.1ofthe100links.com site is not HIGHER than a PR$ itself then you wont know cause you wont be able to see it they are like all blocked from being seen.
that leads me to ask does the fact that your links are blocked because you are a PR3 mean you have no link popularity for ranking or do you still retain your links but its simply not shown? Because someone with no links wont apear anyware NEAR the first page.
Just that they are not shown. The links do count.
If you watch the decay of PageRank through a site with no external deep links then it might fall away at like this: 5,4,3,2,1,0,0,0,0,0, then you stop getting crawled. I speculate that this really means 5,4,3,2,1,0,-1,-2,-3,-4, then you stop getting crawled.
If the bottom is approximately -4 on the Toolbar then that should indicate a very small fraction in real terms (due to the log scale). This is, of course quite theoretical.
The best resolution I have is approximately 0.03 of a Toolbar notch. Without getting into too much detail it involves watching the decay of PageRank through a site with no external deep links.
