Dr. Eric E. Schmidt was appointed chief executive officer in August 2001, five months after joining Google's board of directors as chairman. Schmidt is also the chairman of the board of directors of Novell, where he is involved in all significant and strategic decisions and plays a central role in the technical development and management of the company.

Schmidt came to Novell in 1997 from Sun Microsystems, Inc., where he was chief technology officer and corporate executive officer.

Hmmm... if he turns Google into as big a success as Novell, Google is in big trouble... Actually, Novell's issues probably went beyond what one guy could fix. Supposedly, he's a bright & versatile guy, and should be a heavy-duty addition to Google's team.
