I recently created a new page and linked to it from 2 pages already indexed in google. I notice now that it is the pages I already had in google that show up now when I search for the phrase rather than the new page I wrote that has the benefits and detailed description of
the item. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to boost
the reputation of the new page since that is what I'd like to have people find in the google search results given that they may overlook the link to it by going to the page that they find now.

If the title and body text of the new page match the search phrase, and if the pages that link to the new page use the search phrase in the link text, then I'd expect it to come up ahead of them. It wasn't always the case, but over the last year or so this has become a near-certainty, IMO.

If the links were added during the last cycle, (i.e. since the update [webmasterworld.com] before last) then you may find that the link text was indexed without the page being fetched. Is the new page actually in Google? (you can check the cache if you don't use noarchive tags).
