Haven't got the page rank thing figured out ... I've got a one page doorway site with no incoming links and one outgoing link that has a PR of 3. Don't even know how it got in the index, because I didn't submit it, maybe because it is in google adwords.

Then I've got a site on the same topic, with links from ODP (PR7 page in ODP) and Yahoo, which is a multi-page content site with lots of good info, and linking between all of the pages, which just got spidered in the last update, but has PR of 0. What the?

profitpuppy, welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Sorry to hear that you received a PR0, but that seems to be the nature of the beast lately with Google. The PR0 could be the result of any number of different things.

Read through some of the threads in this forum as many other members have encountered the same problem. Evaluate your site, your internal and external links, and try to determine where you upset Googlebot.

Don't try to figure out page rank...

Page rank will come naturally if you follow some general guidelines...

As stated by agerhart, read these forums... read, read, and read... I missed one of those "read" parts once and got page rank zero on many of my domains.... I missed the part about cross linking.

Quality links, quality content, don't try to scam Google because as someone once said in these forums - Google has several high paid PHD's trying to figure out your SPAM. They are smarter than you. Don't think they aren't.

I've wondered about this myself. Google seems to be secretive about what they are using that for.

I just checked Brett:

[toolbar.google.com...]

"Voting buttons: If you especially like or dislike a page, you can vote for or against the page by using these buttons. Just click the happy or unhappy faces to tell Google that you like or dislike a page as you surf. These buttons can also be used to report especially good or bad results after searching on Google. Indicate satisfaction or dissatisfaction with your results by clicking the appropriate button after performing a Google search. This feature is in testing; for now, you will not see any immediate effects by voting for or against a page."

If you trust Google's word (dunno that I do) they claim this is just in "testing". Thus if Google is being honest, whatever people vote should have no effect on anything at the moment. It may be that Google is researching whether or not if how people vote in fact is something that should be used in the algo. I wonder how many people actually use this feature? I sure don't.
