link: vs. unique keyword reference

How does Google figure back links?

Hi, my domain name is a unique brand name, which only appears in
reference to my site. When I do a search on link:www.myuniquedomain.com,
Google reports about 17 different results, but when I do a search on
myuniquedomain, Google reports something like 2,340 results. When I look at some
of these 2,340 results, they are all references to my site and include a link to
[myuniquedomain.com....]

Many of the 2,340 are propagated PPC listings I have, but several
hundred are actual links.

What's up? Why is google only seeing 17?

The general consensus is that Google only displays links with a PageRank of 4 or higher. That, more than likely, is the cause. :)

I just checked that and there are lots at PR5 which are not listed in link: results.
