What relevance is PR to anything?

I cannot see how it is affecting my new listing at all...

If you search on my number one keyword (single word) in the UK I come up #3. #4-#10 are all higher or the same PR as me. Mine is a lowly 2 so it's not that hard but I still reach #3.

Can anyone explain what relevance PR has at all as I find it very difficult to see any?..

I guess it depends on what search keywords you are targetting. I'm after pop/rock bands names. If I search for these band names then all of the famous ones page 1 search results are either PR5 or PR4. Nearly all of the pages have the band name in the title/H1 tags/many times in the text/and (I guess) in the link text of the links pointing to them. So I don't think I can win this game with just on-page and link text factors which is how you normally beat higher PR pages

I conclude that unless I get good PR4s for all of my pages then I can't get on Page 1 of the search results for the 800 or so bands I am targetting.
