Do .ws .cc .bz and .nu extenions work with Google. Does a .com rank higher than these or does it matter what extension you use.

ThankYou

From my experience, the top level domain name extension doesn't seem to have any effect on your google ranking.

I have seen top results for .com's .net's .info's and even sites hosted on free servers.

I read a good article about it once, about google getting rid of the need for a "good" domain name, since it makes it so everyone can be found. I can't find the link offhand though.

The tld won't make a difference in Google.com however if you use any of the locale specific Googles then you need to either have the locale specific tld or to have a generic tld .com etc hosted in that locale.

Yes, the only downside is that if you are in the uk, having a .co.uk domain gives you "uk" in the anchor text for any links you get in.

Most people do not use the 'uk sites only' option on google, and instead put "uk" on the end of the search term.

YES, these foreign extensions work just as well with Google as a .com. These can be an excellent choice if your site happens to have a single keyword that is critical in searches, and it is available in these foreign TLDs. For example, if you run a hobby site for dohickeys, and dohickey.com is taken, yet dohickey.ws is available, DO grab the .ws domain.

However, if you are planning on an e-commerce site, the .com is STRONGLY preferred. However, for personal sites these foreign TLDs can make easier to remember URLs.

I would even be hesitant to use keyword.bz as my main address. It may help some in the SERPS, but Google doesn't look that highly on domain name keywords any more, does it? Also, you will probably find that more people come back to your site by typing in something like google.com than search.nu
