Wonder if there is something wrong with the Google algo or do they have google fooled by some sort of cloaking?
I have been observing this site for nearly six months now and it shows no sign of being dropped.
Would be happy to send anyone a sticky if they would like to help figure this one out.
The URL came up with a frames page, no top frame and the body frame (I'm not that familiar with frames & their terminology) pointed to the URL of a company who you can email 'if you are interested in owning this domain'.
Google has cached the page, but the body of the frameset pointing to the second URL doesn't show in the cached snapshot.
The second URL has nothing to do with enfield motorcycles obviously, but Google isn't seeing that, so it's not diluting the content - or lack of it - for a page with some very good PR exact keyword text links.
I'd be interested to see how it fares after the next update. Hopefully it won't.
<add> oops.. I see you've been watching it for some months already. I think this is one circumstance where I would actually report the site to Google - not in terms of I think there is deliberate cheating going on, but for the fact that if Google's algo isn't picking up this sort of thing for months on end, then they need to consider some tweaking.
Goes to show though how often people check their outgoing links are valid - there's a bunch of bike sites out there who obviously have no idea what they're promoting.
I didn't even think of it that way. I've been seeing a site like that for months. Just "coming soon" on the page, BUT an ODP listing with the category and description. Sitting mostly at # 1 out of around a million pages returned, fluctuating between #1 and #2-4.
It's still cached that way, and could be in for another month like that at least, because it stayed through the last update and after. But mid-month, a couple of days ago, it isn't redirecting but did change, there's a page there about a totally different topic. So it's no accident.
As said, almost.
I moved from free webspace to my own domain and just used a noindex, follow tag (don't think that's recommended) to forward to my new site.
The old site remained for months...Just had a message about the pages/site being moved. It ranked in the top 10 for words that didn't appear in the page...and when their was actually content on the page....the keywords it ranked high for were simply a link to a deeper page.
The fact that each page on the old site did not link to its deeper pages anymore...while at the same time ranking high on the homepage for a page that was deeper in the site...suggests to me that google sometimes uses a little assumption in its algo for pages moved/can't find old pages etc
just a 0.02 throw in to the well. The links seem to carry the most clout in regards to ranking- thus everyones craze with PR :)
