If I do a search on google for my name "frank rizzo"

my site gets ranked #1

puzzled????

My site does not mention my name so how the heck is google indexing me? I can only assume that it is a) because of my profile here. b) because I have signed a few guestbooks in my time all with the url of the the site homepage.

This is weird and surely a twist on how google indexes sites. It seems to be prejudging that "frank rizzo" owns [mysite] therefore it displays [mysite].

search [google.com]

Looking at the cached page it says:

These terms only appear in links pointing to this page: frank rizzo

Perhaps friends have linked to your page with your name as the text of the link?

Probably some of both. But don't make the mistake of thinking that Google is associating your name with your site, they are associating the words "frank rizzo" with the site.

Frank, how much is your name in link text, a lot of times?

I guess it must be those guestbooks then. Some of them must have the name frank rizzo as the text descriptor for the a href.

I don't know if it is an honour or not to be #1 infront of the ex mayor of philly.

Google algo probably docks politicians automatically - so you come out ahead =p

This does raise an interesting point though. I am relatively sure google does not use whois information, but it might not be a bad idea. Then i could easily search all my techie friends to find all the domains they own via google.

"Some of them must have the name frank rizzo as the text descriptor for the a href"

That's significant.... isn't it? So link title is important.

Mhes,

exactly.

If I'd have known that, I'd have changed my name to "free widgets".

hmmm....

Free widgets (previously known as Frank)

We experimented with link title on the site in my profile in order to try and break up the mass of links with at least some type of text.
I thought it had done little but maybe........

Free widgets - the person formerly known as Frank Rizzo

I was just wondering if link titles come to play, thanks fot this answer.

You're so lucky, to have your site pop up on a search for your name - mine doesn't as I am out of the Google index for a month (hey, does anybody know when is the next update).

/added
even worse Google suggests that my name should be Martin Tkachev

it is even so that you can use 3 descriptions:

i learned this from the site: c0.nl that is a sort of doorway page maker, their sites scores high, and use this(below), i started using this a long time ago.

<a href="yoursite">Free</a>
<a href="yoursite">Widgets</a>
<a href="yoursite">Buy</a>

now you will score high for these 3 words.

With <h1>free widgets</h1>

you will rank good depending on your pr.
