In last update the title and description of my site was excluded from the Google index. A search for my site shows my site only with the domain link. Searching on keywords for which I am in the top 10 again lists my site among the other results with ONLY the domain link...no title or description. This has caused a reduction in traffic over over 60% this month. My rankings have not changed and I still have pr 5. But I feel people are not clicking through because of the lack of a description.

Was this a Googlebot glitch? Has anyone else had this problem? I cant understand what would have caused this.

Yes! I have exactly the same problem! It has been like it for over 2 months and our google traffic has dropped 100% (ie none, we don't even appear in the results pages anymore). Does yours have a cached page? Our cache is an empty page with a meta-refresh of 0. Our PR is 4.

I'm looking for an answer to this mystery too. This happened since updating our web-page to an ASP one which people can order from (as opposed to static html), as lots of people who visited our old web site were asking for online ordering. Now that we have done that, there are no visitors to order anything. :(

Well...when I search for my site the main page is the one that is listed with NO title or description...only the domain. There is no cache for that page but the page has a pr of 5. The internal pages (pr of 4) are listed with title and description and are cached. But because the internal pages have only a pr of 4, they arent ranked as high and so their listing does not offset the poor listing of the main page.

I don't know what is going on, but I hope with the new update next week things improve.

Could it possibly be something to do with malformed HTML - try running it through the W3c HTML validator and see if you come up with anything. It's a long shot.. but worth a look.

I wonder if it is this:

Your site was dropped from the index. Not penalized, or banned - just dropped. Happens when they make room in the db for other sites or "other" unknown reasons.

You know google will list a page, even without spidering right? They do it just based on the inbound links. This used to be very common a year ago.

So your site has enough in bound links that Google indexed the inbound links for a listing.

That's those links in the listings where it is just the URL.
