Yet another duplicate pages question

I want to duplicate pages without meaning to spam

We have a real estate website in Florida. We offer MLS listing services throughout the entire state. I initially tried to optimize the site for the term "Florida MLS listing". We currently rank very well for that term in Google.

I have designed a page for each of the major cities that we list in under the theory that most people are more likely to type in the name of their city rather than the state when looking for information about listing their home for sale on the MLS.

I've designed information pages for each of the major cities that we list in. They are all identical except for the city's name (10 pages in all). They are each linked to individually from the home page. Will Google interpet this as spamming?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Not as "spamming", but most probably as duplicate content. One of the dupe pages will suffer. The rule of thumb we've been using is the page should be atleast 10% different from the other.

It seems like it would be very easy to not duplicate content in this case. Obviously they would share a common template and navigational bar but there is a lot of room for customization. You could do things like:

  • Write a custom description about each city.
  • Provide a useful statistics table (population, avg income, etc) about each city.
  • Provide useful dynamic info about each city (new listings, feature listings, weather)

Not only would this eliminate spamming concerns, but it would make the pages more useful to users.

Hi. Thanks for your replies. I have already done what threecans suggested. At the bottom of each page I have included information specific to each city. Population, local govr. info and such. Each page is more than 10% different thatn the others at this point. Now I hope that the pages rank well. Let the dance begin!
