I've checked the archives, and I could not find any current info about this, sorry if it's there somewhere.

After the last update, I went from PR5 to PR0, I lost my DMOZ link, and I have no backwards links. I am not able to download the toolbar, but some on this forum were kind enough to share that I am not greyed out, just dropped for the month.

I have been going over my site trying to find out why the drop. Googlebot had been chewing on my site almost every day before the drop. One of the things I did last month was obtain some recip links from sites that had PR5 and above. I am now realizing that a couple of these sites use Zeus. Do I need to drop these sites from my links page, and prey that I caught it in time?

I'm still not quite sure if Zeus is a problem, perhaps some of you could enlighten me on this matter.

Thanks a ton.

it's entirely possible goog got ya linking to a bad neighborhood. Drop the links immediatly and hope for the best.

you say you lost your dmoz link? this means an editor removed you from the database. Did you have any links to your site other than dmoz? Have you tried contacting the editor of the category you were listed in and asked what happened?
just my 1.9 re-occurrings worth.

I am not greyed out, just dropped for the month.

Those two statements may be contradictory. A site dropped from the database because of a technical glitch -- perhaps because googlebot wasn't able to reach it, or for some sort of problem on google's end -- would have a grayed-out PR bar, and would be expected to come back the next month.

A site with a higher PageRank that suddenly dropped to zero would seem likely to be a penalty, and the expectations about what might happen with the next update would be less clear.

Thanks for the quick responses. What I meant is that when you do a search for my site, I do come up, but the link to the google OD is not there anymore. I am still listed in the dmoz, but there is now no green bar next to my name.

I have removed any links from my links pages that could be causing a problem, and we''ll see what happens in a couple of weeks when the new update happens.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

If you have not validated then now is a good time to do it, and to clean up your page titles and discriptions. Be sure to look closely at keyword density and DROP all Zeus links....when it happened to me I went so far as to hunt down as many that were linking to me that I could find and ask to be removed...some did and some didn't.

I finally shook the penalty last month and have a PR6 with a site wide 5 on the most important inner pages.

Good luck, and keep trying.

Ann

P.S.

Check your navagation and be sure all your pages are easy to find. If you do not have a Robots.txt get one and be sure to block the robots from your testing files...work in progress..and any sensitive areas such as the cgi-bin and images.
Brett has a very good tool here to help out on the file.

"the link to the google OD is not there anymore. I am still listed in the dmoz, but there is now no green bar next to my name."

Can anyone verify that this is a way to check for PR0 penalty?
I have noticed this lack of a green bar in the directory before and was curious as to why this occurs.
Thanks.

hi Beadguys,

if it is the site in your profile then IMO it is not a penalty, is it possible that your server was down last time google came around ?

I think this is more likely as the toolbar is greyed out and not PR0.
