Yes, I have been to this seminar once before a few years ago. I found it helpful, especially when starting out.
Yes, you can learn just about anything you need to at Webmaster World. But I also think if your company wants to send you, by all means, go. Great networking opportunities.
I think there is always something else you can learn in any situation you go into.

I'll practically guarantee you that if you spend your $1,400 to go to the Webmasterworld Pubconference you'll get much more for your money.
I've been considering going to the Pubconference but its quite a trek for me. So what would I learn at the Pubconference that I could not learn by spending that same amount of time studying the posts at Webmasterworld?
Any plans to have a U.S. (especially California) conference?

Jane, you just missed it [barconference.com]. Hopefully there'll be another one in 2003.

Not much, so far as technical information goes, but the real answer has already been posted.
WebRookie: Great networking opportunities
Chris_R: Sometimes people say more than they would put down in writing.
Have you noticed how many affiliate members immediately said they were going to pubcon? There's a reason... PubCon is the street bazaar of international webmasterdom. While some will only see about 200 at a pub for the afternoon, others will be cutting deals for everything from co-branding to links to scripts to translations.
I couldn't get to BarCon, but PubCon last Summer was an eye-opener for someone like me whose interest in search engines had largely been academic and tangential to my daily work.
I used to go to some of the big computer conferences back in the late eighties; this is entirely different. Mr Mackin's idea was inspired; skip the 'pointing at an OHP' part and the 'sales-stand spiel' and instead cut straight to mingling with the real people who make this business work.
The most amusing part of the evening was the name of the party.
"Google Dance 2002"
The evening went great until some security people caught a few of us trying to break into GoogleGuy's office. (All we wanted to do was install a couple of packet sniffers... :))
If you think Pub Con is just a fun day at a bar then the day may surprise you. It's cool, it's relaxed, it's each to their own but there is another level there for those who look hard enough.
Imagine a whole year of WebmasterWorld condensed into 8 hours :)
BTW, word is places are almost gone, I'd get registered ASAP.
