Links to site showing on pr0 pages.

A search in Google shows that one of my sites has been submitted to multiple PR0 link farms. Not, I might add, by me!

How does Google view this? I have good linking from elsewhere. Will the PR0 inbound links raise flags at Google?

I believe as long you dont link back to those, you should not worry.

A while back GoogleGuy stted that you should not point to bad neighborhoods but if they point to you, you won't get penalized.

Thankfully this is not something you need to worry about. As Macguru stated, as long as you do not provide a reciprocal link, you'll be okay. There are two major spambots out there that most of us are listed in and those are PR0. As much backwards links checking that we've done these past 60 days, I can assure you that you're fine. Just be careful with the recips. You should make it a point to check your reciprocals after each major update.

Definitely. I've seen instances where this can cause problems when you are linking to more than a few PR0 properties. I'm not sure if there is any validity to it, but, if you are linking to, and they are linking back, I think there may be some issues with Google.

Can I add that you must be extra careful about who you link to especially if your site is some highly competive market?

I belive that niche markets sites can get away with a lot. Some spam filters could be applied only after some given amount of sites are indexed for a given query. Not sure about this.

But let's not get paranoid. I dont think Google will kill your site for a single PR 0 outboud link. As paynt mentionned, trashing bad outboud links should be part of the dusting routine.

I like that one! Your resources section should be one of the top priority areas for maintenance. Not only should you be checking for PR issues, but you want to make sure that nothing has gone askew from your first review of that link resource.

You may also want to review that site a little more in depth and see if there are any other areas where a link might be appropriate. Be prepared to of course provide a recip if applicable.

Rarely would you be trashing outbound links. Well, if you read here at Webmaster World, you may be trashing outbound links a little more frequently than the average webmaster. ;)

Not linking out to PR0 - yes, I've been doing this with links as I add them, in accorance with my "seek-no-association-with-bad-neighbourhoods" policy :) Back-tracking to check the existing links is a good idea, cheers.

googleguy did seem to suggest, when he first talked about bad neighbourhoods, that there COULD be some effect if lots of pr0's linked to you.
i.e. you are a new site. you have 10 links, 7 of which are pr0. you will probably get pr0'd by association.

I'm still not convinced about that. Whenever I've thought I saw a case of this I've found other, more likely reasons (like linking to penalised pages or just not having any good incoming links).

I had a recent experience along these lines.

I work one site that has about 400 recip links, all very topical -- or at least they were when they were set up. One of those other businesses let their domain name expire - and it was bought by a Web slumlord. Before you know it I had lots of inbound links from a bad neighborhood that I was also linking out to.

Never got a PR0 from it, but I did see some slippage on the SERPs, which turned around two months after I dropped the bad link. I can't prove cause and effect, but it sure seemed to be related.

The lesson for me was just what everyone here is saying - check your links, and not just to see if they're broken. Nothing stays nailed down on the web.
