Can't find it now

I seem to recall that a year or more ago, there was a plain-text interface at Google. I can't find it now.
It involved adding an additional directory name after the www.google.com/ and you were into a very plain search interface. Either it was for testing or for the visually impaired.
Does anyone remember how to do this?

I split off the side discussions.

The only problem with the API approach is that it only allows 10 results per search. So, you have to put it in a loop to get up to the 100 you want. That means, if you want to use it, you effectively get 10 searches per day.

And don't forget Google's WAP search [wap.google.com] if you use Opera as your browser or some stand alone wap phone app.
