tried some searches, europe was always identical to main google, while america and asia yielded more results, but weren't identical neither.

I think I saw that too, but I have also seen it differently. When I look now asia.google.com does not match www2 or www3 exactly.

Does anyone know how visitors get to these google adresses other then typing in the address ?

I've been getting a few referrers from europe.google each day for about a month now...but only for two .nl sites , and uptill now always with dutch word queries only.
(I manage quite a few other .nl and other sites...they have never gotten any traffic from europe.google)

It has someting to do with AOL..

Going back through my logs untill early february..I notice at least 90% of visitor ip's coming from europe.google.com are AOL ip's.

Much more hits after july in my logs from this address, and no hits between beginning of april and the end of july.

To answer my own question...
One Dutch source of my referrers could well be compuserve.nl/portal, they use europe.google.com for results.

Also it seems adding

&client=aolwp

to any (also international) Google query string returns many more results..

Heini, sorry about the slow response..

I'm still trying to understand why some domains get referrals from europe.google.com and others did not. This is the case even with domains on the same server and ip.

To me it looks like there's either more data in the europe.google.com database then in the regular one, OR, that some domains are filtered out from europe.google.com for reasons I do not understand yet. I would not expect the left out domains to be filtered out by a family filter.

these two situations are discussed in that thread for aol.de using google.. maybe I should have done a little more research before posting because it just raises more questions eh..
I thought their may be some connection between aol's european search results and this europe.google.com database.

ah well..will have to look into it some more..but for now I'm going to enjoy my sunday offline :)

Am I just slow or what? I have tried a couple of times to see the europe.google.com database and when I put www.europe.google.com in my IE 6 browser I get the msn auto search telling me it doesn't exist. Is it because I'm in South America?

Tropical, just type europe.google.com, america.google.com.
GG has caught us talking about subdomains, even canonicals, so they decided to give it a try...
