Adult sites in Search Results

It's never happened to me before

Today when I did a search on "free gif editor" I was swamped with adult site results. This has never happened to me with Google before and I haven't changed any settings.

I was able to go into preferences and block the adult sites which dropped the number of results from 577 to 31. However I think it also affected the number of accurate results I got. When I did the same search several days ago I am sure there were many more listings.

Anyone else experienced this?

Has to be a glitch. Drop a note about it to Google, I think it's searchquality@google.com. It will get fixed eventually.

Must have been a random glitch. There are currently 400k results for that search and I don't see a single adult site anywhere.

He did the search with quotes. "free gif editor" does show 577 results, with a lot of adult sites. I imagine a lot of those adult sites belong to the same source, who uses the same keyword hidden text template.

I'm still getting adult sites in my results unless I use strict filtering in preferences.

Can someone tell me how many results they receive for the same search and what SafeSearch filter they are using.

Thanks steveb. At least you have confirmed it's not just me getting this rubbish. I will report it to Google.

Moderate filtering (explicit images only) gives 408,000 returned, all of them OK. Not all are relevant to the search, which is another issue, but nothing's wrong with them.

Thanks Marcia, but I can't duplicate your results. Moderate filtering gives me 577 results with 95% adult.

Sorry Marcia. I did get the same results as you when I didn't use quotes around the search. When I use quotes to restrict the search I get 577 results, mostly adult.

Beachboy's email address for Google bounced. Can anyone suggest another address?

Robert, there's also a link at the bottom of every page when you search that you can use to give them feedback on the search results.

I see Robert. Yep, turn off filtering and use quotes - 494 and a couple of adult sites.

Thanks starec and Marcia. At least I've learnt a bit more about Google thru this problem.
