Can't get more than PR5, why?

Our site seems to be stuck on PR5, this update shows us with 114 backward links, up from 90 before the update. We have 2 DMOZ links, 3 Yahoo links and a couple of good links from well ranked sites, but still have PR5. Are we loosing PR because we have 2 links on the page to other sites? I just cannot figure out how to get a higher PR.

What's the PR of the pages pointing to you? They might be ranking well but still not have a whole lot of PR, so all added up, it still might not be enough. Maybe a PR6 link or 2 would be possible to get.

I've got a PR5 with 90 links now showing (not all that many sites) but none are very high, so it'll stay a 5. Another site has 200 links showing, mostly external, and it's still a PR5. It'll take a PR6 link or 2 to do it.

I have a site which has been stuck at PR5 for a very long time. Then, this update, without any effort, it went to PR6. No additional links, just additional PR!

How did you get the additional PR with no additional links?

I have a PR5 site with PR5 main pages with 214 links showing. I've got a few 6's, a decent amont of 5's, and many 4's.

Before this last update, I only had 38 links showing, my site was PR5 and main pages PR4. Therefore, with this last update, I now think I'm really close to cracking 6 on my homepage (maybe next month).

Thanks, I feel much better knowing I'm not alone. I guess its much more important to be in Google and have good positioning for your keywords which we have. On a final note, Google UK has a PR 9.

I don't know. I show 66 in-inbound links. A quick scan through the link: results does not show anything new. Same old stuff.

Maybe it was just my turn! ;)

Our site went to PR 7 a couple weeks ago and then after the update went back down to PR 6. Why? Why? :(

The number of incoming links showing is something I'm wondering about since long time. If I check 24bit's page Google does show 214, but if you click to the end of the SERP's it's finished after 107. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

They've been showing half, but it's open for debate which ones are chosen.

The PR of a page can change because the PR of the pages linking to it has changed. If their PR goes down a bit the value of the vote is decreased. OTOH, with the same number of inbound links, if the PR of the linking pages increases the value of their vote goes up so the page linked to can gain some without an actual change in numbers.

Over time it's likely that the PR you're getting from a particular set of inbound links is going to decrease. That's because at least some of those sites are probably going to link to other websites in their own search for traffic, and thus the PR you're getting from each page will reduce.

The hunt for more inbound links can't be stopped! Luckily there is another effect in operation that counteracts this - as my site gets better known for its content and also more popular, more and more sites are coming to me for links or are simply linking me.

I'm also having trouble getting to PR6, and I have 245 inbounds this update. It's more difficult for me, because there are very few sites in my niche area that are PR5 or higher. At least I know I'm well up near the top of the tree in my part of the forest. :)

The Page Rank of some of your inbound links increased.

Very true. If only some of my clients understood that. But, no, they wait untill they drop to second page, and loose 3 months of traffic before they react.

Don't sweat it - I have 6 different sites, all of them PR5... and the number of backward links ranges from as low as 14 to as high as 136. Remember, PR isn't everything, as one of these PR5 sites is now on the first page of its target keyword, in front of several PR6 sites and even a few PR7's. :)
