We are going great guns with Google but perform abysmally in alltheweb despite having nearly 800 pages in all with valuable relevant content. I can only conclude that Alltheweb simply don't have a great number of users compared to google hence the poor amount of traffic, has anyone seen any numbers out there with traffic stats for the respective SE's.

You're talking about traffic, not positioning in AllTheWeb.com, correct?

Yes just wanted to find some figures comparing allthewebs traffic to googles, basically I am trying to understand why nearly 800 pages of ours in alltheweb drive so little traffic compared to when we had 800 pages in google and it generated a 100 fold more traffic to our site than alltheweb does now.

Yep..it is the same here. 6,000 pages listed with Google and 2,100 pages with Alltheweb. Number of visitors from Google alone is around 13,500 a month, but we only have about 200 from Alltheweb and about the same from Lycos. The rankings of hundreds of our keywords in both search engines are very high and about the same. So the conclusion I have for my site is that there are not many people using it. I love Google, but Alltheweb is one of my favorite too, it is a great search engine. I do not understand why people don't use it..........

Marketing. Most web surfers don't know about it. I am continually amazed by the complete lack of effort search engine companies put into brand building.

ATW is definately delivering an insignficant numer of hits compared to Google, but this is due to some great first mover branding by google 2 years ago.

In a marketing crazy world, the reality is that the very best products and services cant sell themselves. 90% of it is marketing. 10% is product. Sorry but true. While industry insiders and specialists all know how good ATW is, not so for the mainstream users. To them they dont have time to fin out best resources themselves. They are happy to be guided by their AOL. MSN or Yahoo start page.

BUT..

ATW is going for industry not end users. If you have good rankings in ATW/Fast, watch for your URL to be promulgated in protals and other search engines under different names now and in the future.

Google got great world of mouth publicity competing in a market left almost exclusively for them by the move of AV and others to more commercially based results and interfaces. ATW is offering the same but unlike google, as the "follower" in this market dont get the pubicity as was due to Google in their bold competitive original offerings at the time.

Watch out for ATW returns under other referral names as Fast starts to power more portals.

To me top rankings in ATW, Teoma and Wisenut are great investments for the future becuase they not only represent growing engines, but more importantly reflect more clearly how popular and themed/targeted your site is, regadless of PPC or commercial bias. To some extent the new AV too.

Good rankings in yahoo, ODP and Google are good for the present as well as the future!
