Inflated PageRank?

It appears that the PageRank constant has been recalculated.

Does anybody know what's up with PageRank inflation? Is it general? Does in mean anything in practical terms?

In my opinion it doesn't mean anything for webmasters (other than a warm fuzzy feeling but there are other ways to get that).

If your PageRank and your competitors' PageRank increase by the same amount, then your rankings, visitors and sales won't be helped or hindered.

But, like, what I'm wondering is is whether there actually was some sort of general pagerank inflation. I saw reference to such here on the site not too long ago, and then lo! and behold! I went from a five to a six on the recent update. I don't know whether to have a beer and congratulate myself while silently thanking those who linked to me, or simply have a beer period!

Hopefully this fits the subject...

As of the new update, I am noticing a drop in page rank from the previous index (at least on two of my sites). The sites dropped to a PR3 from a PR5 but I am listed anywhere from the 1st to 5th positions on many key words, many more key words than the last update. I am getting more referrels with less page rank.

So much for page rank! It is the referrels that count.

Jango, if your rankings are better than before then you should congratulate yourself. Seeing as it's Saturday evening, I suggest cracking open a beer anyway. (OK, afternoon where you are but who's counting?:))
