This came out of left field and it does make you kinda of wonder what google has up their sleeves. With their current reach via syndication - [searchenginewatch.com...] - they are in a very good position to charge for inclusion and/or put up some serious barriers for indexing via more filters, etc.

Another loss for Inktomi? I've enquired with PositionTech regarding this situation and other recent losses.

They really need some scalps to make their PFP worthwhile.

My heart sinks at Google's domination. I've expressed the opinion before, I feel that Google's domination really does disadvantage the SME who can't hope to build the heavyweight link popularity which seems to be a prerequisite for good Google rankings.

If MSN goes Google, I think that SEO may = Google optimisation (whatever that is)

Agreed. Inktomi seem to be losing partners hand over fist and that is not good for webmasters, SEOs or Joe Surfer.

I personally feel that Ink still has something to offer - particularly as they are not a search engine themselves - but this is another nail in their coffin.

I've watched my referrals from PositionTech drop by about a third since the 17th even though rankings have only experienced their usual small fluctuations. If it wasn't for this forum, I'd think I was losing my touch instead of it being Inktomi losing customers.

PFI at Google just doesn't make sense to me unless it is a speed thing. I just don't see the advantage of a site wanting to go that route unless they stop spidering as heavily. Then, you lose your database size advantage to engines like FAST.
