Can Google be far behind?

As if it wasn't bad enough that the Patriot Act gives librarians zero rights when the FBI comes calling, some librarians are going further and spying on students [sptimes.com].

An official of the American Library Association recommends that libraries institute a regular purge of their borrowing records so that they cannot be so easily compromised.

Search engines that keep massive cookie records ought to consider doing the same thing. Google's cookie database is a serious problem in this respect.
