www2 www3 are the Temp Databases that google uses for reindexing at the end of each month while google tries to sort out the best order of her index it use's www2 - www3 to compare an tweak and when she's happy she will pass the results to www.

I dont think iv made my self clear in my question. i do undrstand ww ,2,3,.

What i ment was can you buy a domain www2?

for example if you wanted the domain www.bluething.com and some one already had it can you buy www2.bluething.com.

but i think iv answered my own question!!!

I dont think you can, if im correct what you have to do is add a sub domain eg. example.bluething.com but call your sub domain www2!! so unless you own the domain any way i dont think you can do it.

if thats right you can deleate the thread so i dont waist any more of anyones ones time.

thanx guys

Your not wasting anyones time.

You cannot buy www2 or www3. They are apart of the domain itself. Most companies use these for load balancing. It would be real confusing (and real expensive) if not only were there .com, .net, and .org for each domain name, but www, www2, and www3 were up for grabs also.

lynxeffect- do yourself a favor and google for domain/dns/bind
faqs and howtos. To answer your question no you can't go to
a normal registrar (ie netsol/verisign) and buy
www2.somedomain.com. If you were desparate enough and had to
have your own child domain under somedomain.com then you
would have to get permission from the company that owned
the domain and ask them if they would let you buy/rent/lease/own
the child domain. They have to add a specific NS record
in the zonefile for somedomain.com and point it at the IP
of your name server or the IP/IPs of a host that will permit
hosting child domains.

Of course - some hosts don't let you do this - most that do call them subdomains.

As in get unlimited subdomains for $29.99 a month.

Means you can get whateveryouwanthere.example.com

Just type www2 in the Google bar and a number of sites show with it in the url.
