Odd Google Traffic

On a site that has not had good rankings for some months, I've begun to see a trickle of hits on some semi-competitive keywords. When I try and backtrack these searches from the log URL, though, I never see the site in the results. I can't see them in www, www2, or www3.

Any thoughts as to what is going on? Is there one server in Google's farm that has decided it likes that site? Is this significant in our current "pre-update" condition?

It just seems to happen sometimes. We've been getting Google referals to a new site over the last few days, with no sign of a listing in any of the Google's I've tried.

Hmmmm, a good harbinger, maybe... Certainly, it would suggest that your new site might make the upcoming update.

Oh,it will be listed, and listed well.:)

The odd thing, compared with the past, is that some people are seeing it in the results occasionally for a few days, but not the rest of us.

I suspect that it's due to Google's changes to the way that fresh listings work.

I just picked up about a thousand referrals in 24 hours from a top ten position on the most popular three letter word, but by the time I checked I was back on the usual #20-30 page. Must have been some kind of temporary glitch.

One of my sites has been laboring under an internal pr0 penalty for a few months so I was surprised to get a huge surge in Google traffic on the 17th and 18th of this month. All my good rankings were back with top 10 positions - just like the old days. There was no change in page rank. It only lasted two days however so my celebrations were premature:-( Sigh, back to the pr0 wilderness....

I hope I am understanding the question otherwise I could look really stupid for trying to explain something that yours all probably now.
www1(currently off), www2 and www3.google.com are were the new updates become visible. In other words, when google is starting its monthly update, you will see the new coming results in www3.google.com. Those results are no yet definitive and by searching in the normal www.google you will see the results switching quite often from the old results to those displaying in www3. The new results within a few days will appear also in www2 until definitely they will appear also and by now constant in www.google at the end of the update
