What's the best relative PR to link to?

Which sites will most benefit your PR

Obviously, sites with a higher PR commute more PR to your site if they link to you, than those sites with a low PR that link to you.

Let's consider whether it's worth asking sites which have a LOWER PR than you to link to you. We could find that:

A) Although their PR is lower, it still adds something to your PR total OR
B) Because your site has a higher PR than theirs, they cannot benefit you (in PR terms) in any way.

Any thoughts?

If the PR is lower than yours, it won't help much from a PR standpoint. But if the page is on theme, it may benefit you in other ways. Also, keep in mind a PR 3 today might be a PR 6 in the future.

Any link you can get is good... even if it doesn't affect PR it might help you elsewhere. And contrary to the message above, I do think a whole bunch of low PR links can add up in value to help your PR. Surely Google would acknowledge 2,000 separate links from PR3 sites... even if your site is PR6.

I think we are getting side tracked when it comes to link discussion.

It isn't all about PR... A link is a link and will bring people to your site.

Agreed. Also, there is a suspicion that the number of links from other sites (i.e. old fashioned link popularity) helps Google rankings separately from PageRank.

Good point.

For example I had a link from a PR4 to one site (PR6) now the page containing the link is PR7 and no doubt has helped this sites PR.

Also a link IS a link no matter what the PR and as mentioned if it is on *theme* then it helps Google theme your site.

I think we have started giving Google too much attention, yes it is a great referrer but a link helps in all SEs in one way or another.

I am just as pleased when I get a link from a PR4 as I am from a PR6 (although a PR7 or higher allows me to get a beer out of the fridge:)).

IMHO
