A dropped Google site question

I posted last week about my site being dropped by Google. I suspected a problem with my web host and have learned from them how this Gogle (and other SE) problem may have happened due to an error on their part. They have fixed the error and written help@google.com to take full responsibility.

I re-submitted my site last week (first time I have re-submitted in 2 years) and am wondering how long it may take to get re-indexed. I am also wondering why my site still appears at Google Canada and other international Google sites but with a grey page ranking. Is it of any value that the site even appears at these internaitonal sites?

Thanks in advance.

gtodell,

I'd guess 2 to 6 weeks - 2 if Googlebot shows up within the next few days and up to 6 if it doesn't.
This is based on the bot's historical behavior, but many here are reporting that it's been acting
differently due to a rumored attempt to update more often.

I can't comment on the importance of the international listings - that depends on whether you
have significant international visitors. And I don't know if the international and national
databases influence each other in a way that would restore your listing faster.

<bump>Anyone?</bump>

Good luck!
Jim

Thanks all for the info.

As of Wednesday my site has re-appeared when I search using the same keywords as before the disappearance. However, the PR bar is grey. As I never had the Google toolbar installed prior to my site having disappeared I cannot say that the PR bar showed anything different before the site disappeared. Any ideas what this grey PR means when in fact a keyword search brings up my home page?

Also, if I type my URL as <domain>.com in the search area my site is not found. Any significance there?

As you can see, I am a pretty weak webmaster! But I do own the business and I do make money off my "weak" site. Further, I am a profound believer in the www as a mode of commerce!

Thanks in advance, and as always, for your help!

gtodell,

Grey means they haven't assigned you a page rank, so they must have *really* dropped your site,
and probably due to the server problem you reported. Or a glitch.

But this is not as bad as an all-white PR bar. That means, "You are known to Google and we don't
like your methods"... the dreaded PR0!

Don't freak if your site pops in and out of the index until the next update - that seems to be a
common thing with "new" sites, and your site being rated "grey" means they are probably treating
your site as new.

As to "weak"... Nah! Everybody learns something here every day!

Check out Brett's Google Knowledge Base here on wmw and you'll likely learn a bunch!

Cheers,
Jim
