We have a site totally UK relevant and find with reference to people using .co.uk only about 30% use the 'uk sites only' option.
Our figures for the last few days are :
2117 www.google.com
1204 www.google.co.uk
(Bear in mind we get better rankings for 'uk sites only', hence more than 30% referrals)
We reckon that most people prefer the world search and instead of clicking the UK sites button put "UK" on the end of their search. This probably is the case for other countries as well.
Personally I would prefer that google defaults to 'UK sites only' on google.co.uk
I totaly agree , surely this makes more sence... even AV got it right (sort of) you go to their uk page and you query the uk index. only thing i hate is when you want to go to the .com page it redirects you to the UK page with "the web" selected..
