Google still switching

...between old and new crawl

During the last crawl I played around a bit with my title tag. The new one showed up on Google almost immediately, then switched back again and since then went back and forth constantly. Today it's back at the old one again. Will it be only after the next major crawl that the new title stays? Any ideas?

That's not all - I've just noticed my toolbar PR moved from 6 to 7 in the last 24 hours. It had previously been at a 6 since the late May update. I track the PR's of about 30 sites and have noticed some of these changed also. This is the first time I've noticed this occur other than directly after an update. Has anyone else observed this?

Dantheman,

Same here, I am willing to eat my hat if I am wrong, but many internal pages of my site have gone from PR5 to PR6 ;)
Nice one Google.. (only for WMW members?)

(what does a hat taste like?)

My PR also took a step up within the past 12 hrs (on both my main domains) I was surprised when it dropped a place just after the last crawl. Perhaps there was a PR bug and they have been able to get it sorted.

I think Google are now crawling major sites more often and this is having a knock on effect on the general serps. Movement anywhere caused movement everywhere. If you know what I mean

bluemi, when you saw the newer listings (before it switched back to last month's title), was there a date next to your result (which is now missing)?

We have noticed the same thing. Currently there is a date (July 10, 2002) next to our listing on www2 & 3 but not on the main index. We also noticed that the number of results returned when doing a search have varied quite a bit since the last update.

*slapping forehead* that explains my traffic drop in the last 48 hours.

2/3 of my pages are missing on www at the moment.

I think I'll just go have a stiff gin and call it a night.

bluemi, this is normal.

If Googlebot doesn't fetch another 'Fresh' listing when the last one (a day or two ago) gets a little stale, then it throws it out and reverts to the last full update.

Thanks, ciml. Hope my new title will be in again soon since it gets me from position 10 to 1 for an important keyword...

Hmm.. if everybody's PR has gone up one.. then we are back to where we started.. :)

Same as wehn as lot of sites all went down one a few months back!

One of sites is still down a PR from May. Just checked and it has gone up 1, now we just need it to go back up another 1.

What's truely interested is that the No1 position for our keywords is held by a site that now has No PR, which should be correct, becuase this site has no text and very few links.

I'm feeling very hopeful now, that on the next update, this site will once again drop off :)

Thanks for all the great information, all the time. :-)

Regarding your above statement:
"If Googlebot doesn't fetch another 'Fresh' listing when the last one (a day or two ago) gets a little stale, then it throws it out and reverts to the last full update."

Does this suggest that if i continually update my page, it will continually be indexed? And that once you stop for some period of time, you would then revert all the way back to the last update? Is that what you're saying there? Finally, if so, do you know what constitutes a significant enough update to warrant an indexing? Thank you!

Do don't keep getting Fresh listings unless you keep getting crawled. If you're not on the daily crawl list then it doesn't matter how often you update (I think that ODP and Yahoo! listings cause daily crawling.

If you are being crawled daily and you updated 5 days ago but not since, then I don't know if your Fresh listing stays of if you revert to last month.

googlebot question:

late last month and early this month, googlebot aggressivly crawled my ASP generated site. If these pages were indeed indexed, should i be able to do a www3 search and see the links there, but not on the www search because it hasen't danced into it yet?

Lamer - nope. They MIGHT start showing up before the dance in w2 and 3, then again, they might not. Don't expect to see them anywhere until around the 20th to the 24th of this month.

It's been 10 days since I made my original post on this thread and since then, Google has changed our PR again. I'm baffled completely?
