Looks interesting:

Search for programs from a variety of channels including:
ABC (KGO) * KRON * PBS C-SPAN
KQED * NBC (KNTV) * Fox News C-SPAN2
* San Francisco Bay Area stations

How do they monetize this one? Streaming ads? Text ads? Hit the TV channels up?

But search engine analyst Charlene Li of Forrester Research said Googles latest innovation was likely to disappoint many people because it did not provide a direct link to watch the previously-broadcast programming.

Google is instead displaying up to five still video images from the indexed television programmes, as well as snippets from the shows narrative. The search results also will provide a breakdown on when the programme aired and when an episode is due to be repeated. Local programming information will be available for those who provide a ZIP postal code.

I will remember that the Google Video search is also a beta.

For the Hearing Impaired:
I like the video search results because being Deaf I am able to read the contents of a video clip. The lack of captioning support in open media makes me angry at times. I end up resorting to having hearing friends listen for me.

I do hope Google though finally offers up the videos for viewing so we can all appreciate the action that goes with the preview :)

Additionally there is over 8,000,000 deaf and hard of hearing people who can benefit from Google’s video results. Yahoo and other video search systems are failing to address and ongoing issue.

This is great for public relations agency. They can monitor news coverage for their client by a video search. Makes their job a lot easier.

YahooMMS, I don't think I said welcome to WebmasterWorld when you started posting over at [webmasterworld.com...]
Nice to meet you!

I'd say that the current searches have different interim goals. Judging from your quote in that thread:

The current AudVid system has a delay in responding to robots.txt. While we adhere to robots.txt in choosing the content, it may take several weeks for this to propigate to the content previously scheduled for crawling.

it sounds like the primary source of your content is from crawling the web. That's going to be great for some things, and not as good for others. The difference in my mind is that we've been recording and indexing television video. So if you do a search like [video.google.com...]
to find out about the Glendale train wreck, you're going to get a lot of relevant and topical results about that recent news. Anyway, nice to get to know you; everyone that posts has their own different voice. Keep the feedback coming--I'm happy to make sure that our folks read your comments.

Best wishes,
GoogleGuy
