Using a redirect to set new user variables. Will Google care?

We customize content by region, and are implementing a redirect that uses IP mapping to set a cookie variable that filters our content accordingly.

Questions:
How does Google view these types of redirects?
Does the googlebot accept cookies or browse like a shopper with cookies disabled?

If you are setting a cookie - how can it see it at all?
No bots don't take cookies.

The bot will travel the redirect like a user, although no cookies will be set.

Sounds from your response like this wouldn't negatively impact a crawl. Correct?

I agree. We could identify bots and have them bypass the redirect. Better or worse?
